13-year-old boy falls victim to "free game skin" scam

I saw a report and felt very surprised and relieved. I was surprised that even children's money was cheated, and relieved that this family is so wealthy, over a hundred thousand. I don't know when I can earn over a hundred thousand. My pocket and bank card only have a little over 300. I won't worry about food this month, but what about next month?

On August 14, the Red Star News learned from the police in Nanjiang County, Bazhong City, Sichuan Province that recently, a 13-year-old student fell victim to a "free game skin giveaway" scam, revealing the family's bank card number and password, and was cheated out of 130,000 yuan. Currently, the Nanjiang police have filed a case for investigation.

"Danzai Party" is a trendy game that combines challenges, disguises, DIY, and more. According to the investigating police, on July 30, 13-year-old student Xiao Yang from Nanjiang County saw a video offering free Danzai Party game skins and gradually fell into the scam.

Xiao Yang said that he was a loyal fan of "Danzai Party" and when he saw the free gift, he thought that after changing to a new skin, he could show off in front of his friends. So, he scanned the QR code on the video's homepage to participate in the lucky draw. After winning a skin, he followed the instructions to join a QQ group to claim it. At this point, the other party claimed that during the claiming process, he was detected by the public security authorities as a minor, so the skin was intercepted, and the "Danzai Company's" financial chain was frozen, resulting in a loss of 100,000 yuan.

"The other party demanded that I must make up for this 100,000 yuan loss, otherwise they would report my family to the police!" Xiao Yang said he was very scared at the time and his mind went blank. Later, following the instructions of the other party, he disclosed his grandmother's bank card number, password, and verification code. "I dare not tell my family, afraid that they will scold me when they find out!"

It wasn't until later that his grandmother discovered the 130,000 yuan expenditure on her bank card and took Xiao Yang to the police station for help. After reporting to the police station, Xiao Yang learned that this was a scam targeting students under the guise of "free game skin giveaways."

On August 14, the Red Star News learned from the Nanjiang County police that the case is currently under investigation.

The Nanjiang police analyzed that the "Danzai Party" game skin scam mainly targets students. The scam involves three main steps: First step: Lure. Criminals post advertisements on social platforms offering free "Danzai Party" game skins to attract victims' attention. Second step: "Gift" turns into "violation." The so-called free "QR code" for claiming is actually a trap carefully designed by scammers. Once the victim scans the code and falls into the trap, the scammers will use excuses like "underage transfer is illegal" or "underage transfer caused the company's account to be frozen" to scare the child. Third step: Intimidation and threats. When the victim hesitates, the scammers will use words like "detention" or "prison" to intimidate and threaten the victim, instilling fear in them and making them cooperate in transferring money to a designated bank account.

The police remind parents to pay extra attention to their children's online activities, strengthen anti-fraud education for children, and advise children to communicate with their parents promptly when receiving messages from strangers. In addition, parents should safeguard their phone passwords, bank passwords, verification codes, and third-party payment passwords, be cautious about enabling password-free and quick payments. If scammed, keep chat records, transfer receipts, etc., and report to the police promptly.
